TheLe: Overpower? Isn't that like VS?
Norman: OverPower predates VS and are not the same thing at all. OverPower, in a nutshell, had you choose 4 characters to make up your team. Your deck comprised of different types of cards. Some could be used by any character that met the criteria, some could only be used by a named character. The mechanic was interesting and, in a time when Magic and its many derivative similar games ruled, it was a significantly different mechanic. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. That was my first intro to today's world of gaming. Through that I met many people who I continue to be friends with today.
OverPower was canceled about 4-5 years before Heroclix came on the scene and while I may have some of my cards still, most of them went the ebay route. I do still have my trophy from winning a NY Regional Championship as well as the 4 character cards I used to win it. As far as VS was concerned, it was a non-issue with me. When it came out, I learned to play it. I did not enjoy it very much. I like a game that has a common mechanic that all things use relatively consistently. With Heroclix, all figures share the same 30-40 powers and the team power comes from just the right combination. Games like VS (and Magic) are very different - every card can bring an entirely new thing to the game/deck. One can argue there is a lot more strategy like that, but for me, personally, it's "more than". For example, if Heroclix's rules had only special powers for every figure and there were no common threads, I would feel similarly about Heroclix. Again, I'm not saying one is better than the other - I'm just saying what my preference is.
